Much has been said about getting backlinks via SEO, reciprocal linkings or content and blog submissions, but what’s the formula for getting them through forums?

First, why use forums to get backlinks?

Consider your other options to get fast backlinks:

- Link farms (highly dangerous, in my opinion!)
- Paid link services (which could get you banned by Google)
- Commenting on blogs (usually moderated and not allowed)
- Article Distribution (good if you have time and money)
- Video Distribution (good if you are handy with a camera)
- and others…

Other options tend to be expensive, like getting a membership in a content distribution network for blogs, or cumbersome.

This leaves just one area that is relatively untouched: Forums.

With forums you can add a link to your site in your signature line.

The advantages of using forums are:

- no cost, usually
- ability to change your link any time
- is unlikely to be moderated off
- Google will continually index your backlink

The downside is:

- forum owners HATE comment spam, and if you attract their attention, then your account will be banned! There goes your backlinks too.

In my opinion, the GOOD outweighs the BAD far and wide, because ocne you learn how to avoid looking like a marketer, then you are an accepted person in their community.
