As we can see from the current slump in the economy, with all the layoffs, there is really no “secure” job. As for myself, I have never even had a really secure job, ever. And this in spite of having a Ph.D.

You see, in the academic world most positions are temporary and it is not until you become a Professor that you get a bit of job security. I never reached as far as to those pinnacles of achievment.
