Use Money As A Tool To Do What You Love

by Robert Allen

Money is a tool. Not a goal. You use money to do what you love to do.

Best of all, when you are doing what you love to do, the money comes naturally.

Maybe not at first—but eventually it comes—if you stick with it.

Do you rhink great comedians like Eddie Murphy or Bob Hope started out with this goal: "I want to become a millionaire by making people laugh, then I'll retire to do what I really want?"

I doubt it. They just did what they did best. And the money came. Slowly at first, but then in truckloads. And when you are living your dream—no matter how financially successful you are—why would you want to retire?

What about the presidents of Fortune 500 companies? They make several million dollars a year. Why do they do so well financially?

It is because they love the game of business, and they have polished the skills necessary for success in the corporate world.

How would you spend your time if you did not have to worry about money? Want to know a secret?

Most people never bother to ask themselves that question. They just assume that if they win that $10 million jackpot, they will be happy forever.

But money is not the goal, and far too often, people who fall into the "money trap" are left with an empty, directionless feeling.

One of the most important lessons I teach is that money does not come first. What most people are really seeking is the ability to spend each day doing something they love to do.

Rather than looking for happiness in some future goal of financial freedom, you want to find something that fulfils you every step of the way.

Excerpted from Robert Allen's foreword to the book "Winning The Cash Flow War". His colossal bestseller "Nothing Down" established Robert Allen as one of the most influential investment advisors of all time. He has followed that success with three other best-selling books including "Multiple Streams of Income", as well as the audio cassette programs "The Road to Wealth" and "Multiple Streams of Income" from Nightingale-Conant.
