The
Perfect Home Business
by
Alan Nelson
Have you ever dreamed
of owning your own business, perhaps working from home out of
your own home office. Waking up in the morning, whenever you
want to and working the hours that you decide. Wouldn't it be
nice to not have to rush out of bed in the morning and grab
a quick breakfast just to beat the morning rush hour, only to
repeat the process on the way home and again the next day?
I know I have.
For years I dreamed of working for myself, at home. I wanted
to be able to get up in the morning, walk down the hall and
whalaa...I'm in my office.
I wanted a business with an unlimited income potential. In
fact, I also wanted the option to work elsewhere if I so desire.
An opportunity that would allow me to work from anywhere in
the world.
I also wanted a business that I could run without the hassle
of dealing with employees, payroll, insurances, etc.. You get
the idea.
Well, that was a tall order and quite frankly I didn't think
this opportunity existed; without doing something illegal!
Fortunately, many have found a way to do just that. This opportunity
is Affiliate marketing. If you're not familiar with it, Wikipedia.org
defines Affiliate marketing as "a method of promoting web
businesses in which an affiliate is rewarded for every visitor,
subscriber, customer, and/or sale provided through his/her efforts".
I'd finally found it. The perfect business that provided me
the opportunity to work from home (or wherever I want), whenever
I want, with an unlimited income potential. Basically, I could
run my business from anywhere in the world as long as I had
an Internet connection. I could be visiting my family in New
England or staying in a condo in Hawaii . It didn't matter.
There are many affiliate programs on the Internet. Some are
good and some are not so good. A lot of people find out the
hard way, through trial and error as I did.
Perhaps the largest affiliate program today is the online bookstore
Amazon. Due to the efforts of thousands of marketers, affiliate
links to Amazon can be seen on websites worldwide.
Some of the benefits that an affiliate program can provide
for you are:
- Affiliate marketing is considered a passive income stream,
meaning that you still earn sales even while off line. Once
a customer has visited your site or affiliate link everything
is automated. Your job is to get the customer to the site and
once you've done this, the customer will often return to purchase
additional products. Furthermore any efforts on your part will
often result in sales weeks or months later.
- Most affiliate programs already have pre-built sales materials
and affiliate pages. Once you sign up, all the material that
you would need are already provided for you. When a customer
decides to purchase a product from your affiliate link, all
the processing is handled by the merchant. They calculate your
percentage and (depending on the merchant) will send you either
a monthly check or a check once you've met a certain dollar
value.
- Depending on the merchant, the commissions will vary, but
are often considered high. The merchants are willing to do this,
as many businesses (even established) are still trying to get
a foot-hold on Internet commerce. Paying you a little extra
for business that you've send their way, will certainly pay
off in the end.
- There are numerous strategies which you could employ in affiliate
marketing. Many people prefer to create and advertise their
own web site. This way they have complete control over the products
they offer and can add or delete product links at will. Others
prefer to advertise a particular affiliate link and not deal
with a web site. It's all personal preference and what you are
comfortable with.
- Another attractive option is the ability to work numerous
programs at once. You could have multiple income streams coming
in from various sources. This way if one program is not performing
as expected you can leverage your efforts on the others.
What's great about this is you can do it too! It doesn't take
an Internet expert or a guru in marketing to be successful.
It does take, like any business, the diligence to stick with
it. As in any type of marketing it will take time to build a
customer base, regardless of the opportunity.
